University of Notre Dame
Notre Dame, Indiana
When the University of Notre Dame set goals for an energy management system, they sought a system that would be supported and a controls contractor that would respond to their present and future needs. In 1978, Notre Dame chose Havel to install a Barber Colman ECON I system in 22 buildings including adding thermostats and valves in over 2,000 dormitory rooms. The system was recognized immediately for superior energy management. In 1979, a University of Illinois study rated Notre Dame as having the lowest energy use per square foot of 15 major Midwestern universities. Since 1978, the Barber Colman ECON VI has been expanded to nearly 50 campus buildings with all new construction being added as built. We have continued to support and update the massive system through the years and into the future.
